How does the Carded ID scanner work?
Point your iPhone camera at the PDF417 barcode on the back of a US driver's license or state ID. Carded reads the barcode on the device, checks the age and expiry against the threshold you set (21+ or 18+) and shows one clear verdict in under a second. No photo of the ID is ever taken.
Does Carded detect fake IDs?
No. Carded reads the data encoded in a license's barcode; it does not inspect the physical card and does not claim to tell a genuine ID from a forged one. What it gives you is a fast age check and a defensible, tamper-evident record that a check happened. Spotting a fake remains your staff's judgment call.
Can Carded catch the same ID used twice?
Yes. That's the passback flag. If an ID is scanned, handed back down the line, and scanned again, Carded flags the repeat. It recognizes it from a one-way tag, not from anyone's stored personal data.
What does Carded store, and is guest data private?
Carded never stores a name, date of birth, license number, or image. Each scan keeps only a one-way hash, an age bracket, and the verdict: enough to recognize a returning guest and prove a check happened, and nothing that could identify who they were. IDs are read on the device and discarded, so there is nothing sensitive to breach, subpoena, or sell.
